STARTED AT KU: 1988
CURRENT TITLE: Director/clinical professor, Department of Speech-Language-Hearing.
WHAT THAT MEANS: Wegner directs the Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, oversees the Pardee Augmentative and Alternative Communication Lab and conducts clinical teaching of graduate students completing a practicum. She has also directed the Sertoma-Schiefelbusch Communication Camp for several summers.
NOTABLE: Wegner oversees a well-run clinic that serves about 150 individuals each semester. In addition, she manages her own clinical team focused on providing service to individuals with severe and multiple disabilities. She also oversees an online course and teaches graduate courses on campus, all while directing several graduate students in their master’s thesis work and research projects. Wegner also finds time to serve on several departmental committees and on review boards for Department of Education, Office of Special Education grants, where she was recently a team leader.

STARTED AT KU: 1980
CURRENT TITLE: Administrative professional, Department of Mathematics
WHAT THAT MEANS: Prothe manages the finances of the department and handles myriad other responsibilities. In managing a $10 million budget, she supervises payroll, purchasing and expenditure payments and develops, monitors and analyzes financial reports for the department accounts, whether state funds, grants or KU Endowment monies. She also develops office procedures and supervises the student office assistants and support staff. She is often called upon to coordinate projects ranging from remodeling or moving offices to department programs, symposia, special events and publications. In addition, Prothe processes hiring appointments, which often includes counseling faculty in visa matters and assisting with H1 and J1 visa applications. She also collects data for required program and department assessments and assists department committees by providing data, interpreting policies and implementing procedures. She both assists the scholarship committees with the awards process and manages the diverse funds that provide the scholarships.
NOTABLE: A driving force in the department’s K-12 outreach, Prothe facilitated Math Awareness Month activities for 10 years and has organized workshops and math competitions across the country. Prothe’s dedication to both the University and the Department of Mathematics has extended to serving as a certified track official for the Kansas Relays and volunteer work for Phi Beta Delta, the KU Math Club and many other organizations.
