James B. “Jim” Martin

James B. “Jim” Martin, 66, died April 8. He worked for KU Endowment for 28 years; after which, he was elected trustee emeritus to the board. During his tenure, Martin served as executive campaign director for Campaign Kansas, a campaign that totaled $265.3 million. He also helped launch KU First, which began with the goal of raising $500 million. Survivors include his wife, Kathy; a son; two grandchildren; a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law; a mother-in-law and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to the James B. Martin Scholarship Fund at the KU Endowment Association or to the Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.

Robert Hoffmann

Robert S. Hoffmann, 81, died April 6. He was a professor of zoology and curator at the Museum of Natural History from 1968 to 1985. Survivors include his wife, Sally Monson Hoffman; four children; and two grandchildren.

Memorial service for Asuncion-Lande to be held May 8

A memorial service for Nobleza Castro Asuncion-Lande, a longtime professor of communication studies, will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 8 in Alderson Auditorium, Kansas Union. Asuncion-Lande died Feb. 13. The service will feature a remembrance, tributes and a reception will follow. The KU community is welcome to attend.
