Nancy Chaison

August Unclassified Staff employee of the month

Nancy Chaison

Started at KU: 1985

Current title: Associate director and chief of staff, Office of Study Abroad

What that means: Chaison’s duties are to oversee financial administration and budgeting for the office, supervise support staff, coordinate human resources processes, facilitate communication among the office staff, ensure the office follows procedural requirements of other campus units and serve on the office emergency response team.

Notable: The study abroad office has gone through significant staff and leadership changes, during which time colleagues say Chaison served as the office’s anchor. She took on extra responsibilities to assist where needed and displays a dedication to the mission of the Office of Study Abroad.

She has streamlined office operations and improved procedures that facilitate student and faculty travel abroad. For instance, she revised the phone system to improve response time in emergency situations that may arise for overseas travelers outside of U.S. office hours

Angela Lynn Dopp

September Unclassified Staff employee of the month

Angela Lynn Dopp

Started at KU: Dopp worked at the KU Medical Center’s Office of Student Financial Aid for more than 10 years. She came to the Lawrence campus in 2008.

Current title: Information systems analyst, Office of Student Financial Aid.

What that means: Dopp works with the financial aid offices on both campuses to ensure that the SAKU student system meets their needs. She also works with the Network Operations Center and is the SIS administrator for the Ad Astra room scheduling system.

Notable: Dopp spent many years working directly with students while at the KU Medical Center and eventually became associate director of student financial aid. Along the way, she earned the respect of both students and colleagues. She was asked to move to the Lawrence campus to assist with the financial aid administration system because of her detailed knowledge of medical center student financial aid needs.

In recent months, Dopp has been instrumental in helping to implement the new direct lending program at the medical center, serving as principal functional analyst for the program. First she helped the medical center office in making the decision to change loan programs. Then she worked with federal Department of Education officials and with staff in both the Lawrence and medical center financial aid offices to work out details for processing federal loans and to help the offices make the preliminary decisions on how money would be disbursed to students. Next, she worked with staff in the bursar’s offices on both campuses to develop a system for awarding and posting loans to student accounts. Finally, she helped set up the many disbursement plans for the diverse and complicated needs of the medical center campus. The direct lending program was successfully launched this summer.
