KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE-WICHITA: The KU School of Medicine chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society inducted its 2009 members April 17. The new inductees include a faculty physician and 14 medical students from the KU School of Medicine-Wichita.
The Gold Humanism Honor Society, sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation,
recognizes faculty and third-year medical students who have shown outstanding humanistic and professional behaviors as well as the highest standards of compassion and sensitivity in their interactions with patients, faculty, student peers, and institutional administration.
The KU School of Medicine-Wichita inductees include: Faculty:
Donna Sweet, professor of internal medicine; and Students: Peg Bicker, Cameron Ledford, Bruce Bowser, Scott T. Pauly, Danae Doubek, Nichole Riddel, Kyle V. Goerl, Khaleel Sayeed, Sandy Huynh, Deborah Scrafford, Megan Jones, Patrick Stiles, Alan Kovar, Shane Thoreson.
KU MEDICAL CENTER: Bicyclists from across the United States and Canada are on a mission to change health problems such as lack of clean drinking water and malnourished children, that affect billions of people around the world. Twenty-five Ride for World Health, were at KUMC on May 4. While there, they raised awareness and funds for their cause.
A national nonprofit organization, Ride for World Health was founded in 2004 by a small group of Ohio State University medical students as a reaction to the state of domestic and global healthcare. Their goal is to promote domestic and global health awareness as well as raise funds to aid organizations working to improve access to healthcare in the poorest communities of the world.
The 25 bikers started their 3,700 mile journey on April 2 from San Diego and will conclude on May 24 in Washington D.C.
