John Kary
Current title: Web developer, Information Services
What that means: Kary creates Web sites for departments, with responsibility for design, development of technical features and programming. He also works with the Web applications process; in other words, he creates applications that can be completed online.
Notable: Kary actively seeks ways to improve the overall Web development experience and community at KU. He spends much time providing information and tutorials and answering questions on the KU Web developers’ online forum.
He created the slide show on the KU homepage and also developed a solution that allows open-source Web applications to run with minimal modification on the KU Web environment. This saves countless hours and headaches on installs and upgrades for the users he supports. His insights and the tools that he has developed have helped improve the consulting and support services offered by Web Development and Interface Design.
Ellen Green

Ellen Green
Current title: Catering supervisor, KU Memorial Unions
What that means: Green is responsible for overseeing the set-up, execution and clean up for a wide variety of university events, from small dinners to large receptions.
Notable: Green’s colleagues say she takes a personal interest in every assignment and in every aspect of an event. She has a great eye for the small details that personalize an event and fit the occasion. Because of her commitment to making each event special, she has many clients who specifically ask that she be assigned to the event they are planning.
Green has a hands-on approach to every event. She’s quick to identify potential problems and to solve them, improvising when necessary. Members of the catering staff love working with her and for her. She is involved in staff training, is generous in sharing her knowledge and knows everyone by name.
