Brad Nachtigal

July Unclassified employee of the month

Started at KU: 1999

Brad Nachtigal

Current title: Associate director for capital projects, Kansas Athletics Inc.

What that means: Nachtigal is responsible for managing all athletics construction projects, from the planning phase through completion. He’s been keeping busy for the past couple of years, with the new football complex, the new boathouse, a new tennis locker room and clubhouse, a new baseball clubhouse, the Allen Fieldhouse/Wagnon/Anschutz renovations and several other projects. In all of these projects, he serves as the liaison among coaches, athletics administrators, contractors and architects.

Notable: Nachtigal’s work has been noticed in the department—he received the Kansas Athletics in-house Employee of the Year Award in 2008.

Quotable: “Brad works very hard and deserves any recognition for doing what is a tough job,” said one of his nominating colleagues.

Michelle Huslig Lowrance

July University Support Staff employee of the month

Started at KU: 2002

Michele Huslig Lowrance

Current title: Administrative associate, economics department.

What that means: Huslig Lowrance holds all the duties of an administrative assistant, plus she schedules courses, makes graduate teaching assistant assignments, sets office hours for faculty and graduate teaching assistants, maintains department Web pages, collects and prepares student evaluations, maintains department inventory and prepares and distributes itineraries for weekly guest speakers.

Notable: In the past year, Huslig Lowrance added two projects to her already full schedule. She volunteered to organize the first ever graduation ceremony for the department. Faculty, staff and students agreed the special event and the details she attended to made it an unqualified success.

Huslig Lowrance was also instrumental in organizing a national conference for econometrics.

Quotable: A colleague who nominated her said Huslig Lowrance is “such an important part of the economics department that it is impossible to imagine the office functioning without her. She is tireless in assisting others and goes above and beyond the call of duty to see that the faculty, graduate students and other staff members have everything they need for the office to function properly. Her dedication is amazing and she always volunteers for additional duties and still manages to keep up with her day-to-day responsibilities.”
