Study abroad program receives $14,000 scholarship fund

The family of a KU professor has donated $14,000 for a memorial scholarship fund that will help KU students study in Spain, the director of the KU Office of Study Abroad announced today.

The family of the late Robert A. Granberg, assistant professor of Spanish and Portuguese, has established the Dr. Robert A. Granberg Memorial Scholarship Fund at the KU Endowment Association. The endowed fund will provide scholarships for students to study in Spain as part of the university's study abroad program.

The gift is from Robert Granberg's brother, Kenneth Granberg, and his wife, Lee, of Alameda, Calif.; and from his parents, Arthur and Alice Granberg, of Pittsburg, Calif. Through the Robert Granberg Memorial Scholarship Charitable Trust, contributions also came from his brother, Wayne Granberg of Fresno, Calif.; his sister, Elizabeth Barnhill, who works for KU's Hall Center for the Humanities; and other family members and friends.

"What a fitting and very generous legacy from a man who devoted his life to teaching," said Margareta B. O'Connell, director of the Office of Study Abroad.
