Fincham elected chair of the AACP board

Jack E. Fincham, dean of pharmacy at KU, has been elected chair of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Council of Deans. The council consists of deans and associate deans at pharmacy schools across the nation.

Fincham will be installed as chair-elect during the council's business meeting at the AACP's 99th annual meeting July 18 to 22 at Snowmass, Colo.

He will serve in that post during 1998 and will be installed as the chair of the council for 1999. In 2000 he will serve as the immediate past chair for another year.

"To be elected to this position by a group of your peers is quite an honor" Fincham said. "I am honored and flattered to have been chosen for this recognition."

Fincham became dean of the School of Pharmacy in 1994.

Before coming to KU, Fincham held academic, research and administrative positions at the University of Georgia, Athens; the University of Mississippi, University; Samford University, Birmingham, Ala.; and Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.

Among his research topics are adverse drug reactions, patient compliance, drug use in the elderly and smoking cessation therapies.

Fincham received his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy, Lincoln, in 1975.

He was a Kellogg Pharmaceutical Clinical Scientist Fellow at the University of Minnesota from 1980 to 1983 and obtained his doctorate in social and administrative pharmacy in 1983.

He has been active in pharmacy associations for more than 20 years. Fincham received the 1997 Dean's Award for sustained contributions to community pharmacy practice from the American College of Apothecaries and the Faculty Excellence in Pharmacy Administration Award from the national Community Pharmacists Association.

His publications include more than 150 professional articles and three books.
