Janice K. Ferguson has been named KU director of budget management and fiscal services.
Ferguson, former assistant vice president for financial affairs at Pacific University, Forest Grove, Ore., will assume her new position Feb. 23, said Diane Hoose Goddard, assistant to the associate provost at KU.
"We are excited about bringing her here," Goddard said. "She brings a very global higher-education perspective to KU."
Ferguson replaces Richard L. McKinney, who was appointed vice chancellor for information services July 1, 1997.
"KU is a very good institution, and I am looking forward to working with everyone at the campus," she said. "I felt extremely comfortable with all the people I met when I visited Lawrence."
While at Pacific University, Ferguson was responsible for all facets of budget development. She served on the university process team, which analyzed administrative processes before making recommendations to the president's cabinet on the best practices to use. Ferguson also developed financing strategy and coordinated the issuance of bonds for building construction. As the director of internal audit and financial research from 1990 to 1992, she performed monthly budget analyses and projections and analyzed endowment and unitrust and annuity investments.
"KU is facing many of the same changes we faced at Pacific," Ferguson said. "For me, it's actually an exciting time to be in higher education as we make these changes."
In 1981, Ferguson received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She became a certified public accountant in 1988.
Before taking the position at Pacific, Ferguson was the accountant for the school of law at Southern Illinois University from 1985 to 1988. While there, she managed all law school financial transactions and records, including budget, account reconciliation, expenditures and cash receipts, payroll and fringe benefit records, and fixed asset inventory.
She also served as liaison between the law school and the university community on finances and university policies and procedures.
