Woody stepping down as Washington Counsel
After representing KU's interests in Washington for nine years, he is stepping down.
Woody graduated from KU with a bachelor's in 1966 and from the KU Law School in 1969. He worked for Sen. James Pearson and practiced law privately before working with KU at the request of Chancellor Robert Hemenway.
"It has been my great joy to work with KU, primarily with the chancellor and the KU Center for Research people, like my classmate Jim Roberts, on the effort to expand research funding. We're very strong in many areas, like pharmacy, special ed, engineering, imaging and cancer research, but it's been very satisfying to me to help educate decision makers in Washington about our university's capabilities for the past nine years," Woody said.
Paschal wins faculty development award
Angelia Paschal, assistant professor of preventive medicine and public health at the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, is the recipient of a Center of Excellence for Minority Medical Education Junior Faculty Development Award from the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. The $40,000 award, announced in December, covers the period Sept. 1, 2005, through Aug. 31, 2006. She can apply for a second year, pending availability of funds.
The grant, funded through the Department of Health and Human Services/Health Resources and Services Administration, is awarded to faculty recruits and junior faculty from minority/ethnic groups that are underrepresented in medicine. It protects up to 30 percent of Paschal's time for research activities and professional development.
