John Robert Willingham Sr.
John Robert Willingham Sr., 86, died on Feb. 1. He taught American literature and literary criticism courses as an English professor from 1961 until retirement in 1985. Over the course of his career, he also was a director of freshman-sophomore English, directed English department conferences, and led the KU Summer Institute in Britain. Survivors include a son; a daughter; and six grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society, sent to Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Winnogene Matney
Winnogene "Gene" Matney, 84, died on Feb. 3. She was a KU telephone operator for 10 years. Survivors include three daughters; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Center, sent to Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

George M. Dodder
George M. Dodder, 91 died on Feb. 4. He worked for building and grounds maintenance. Survivors include his wife, Florence; two daughters; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Diana Lucinda Gabrielle Semmler
Diana Lucinda Gabrielle Semmler, 18, died on Feb. 4. She was a server at Mrs. E's. Survivors include her mother; a brother; and her boyfriend.

Opal Irene Folks
Opal Irene Folks, 86, died on Feb. 7. She was an executive assistant for 30 years until her retirement in 1996. In 1995, she was named the employee of the year. Survivors include a son; a daughter; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Westside Presbyterian Church, sent to Warren McElwain Mortuary.

Jonathan Foster
Jonathan "Jon" Foster, died Feb. 6 at his home. He was a graduate teaching assistant in mathematics. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Margaret Foster of San Diego; and a sister.
