Lisa Flaig, a public service administrator in the Office of Admissions and Scholarships, is among faculty and staff who will be honored at the employee recognition ceremony.
Chancellor Robert Hemenway will speak at KU's 32nd annual employee recognition ceremony honoring faculty and staff at 1:30 p.m. May 2 in the Kansas Union ballroom.
During the ceremony unclassified support staff and unclassified employees of the year will be announced. Employees with five to 50 years of service will receive honorary pins. Those with 20 to 50 years of service will also receive mementos from the university.
Lisa Flaig has been a loyal KU employee for two decades but has seen her share of changes from several vantage points.
A public service administrator with the Office of Admissions and Scholarships, Flaig started at KU as a cashier in the comptroller's office. Then she moved on to recreation services, before taking her current job in admissions and scholarships in 1998. She does the budget for her office and helps set office policies.
Although she's worked in three departments, one change has been constant – the evolution of technology in the workplace. The typewriter she once depended on has been replaced.
Flaig is a KU employee who doubles as a student. She is working on her master's degree through KU's tuition assistance program.
One of the things Flaig likes most about KU is the family friendly atmosphere. She also enjoys being surrounded by a young, vibrant staff.
"I get older, our staff stays the same age," she said with a laugh.
