Grad school honors educators

Awards recognize excellence


Seven doctoral students and four graduate faculty received awards for outstanding accomplishments in professional education at the annual KU Graduate School awards ceremony April 27.


Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor David Shulenburger and Diana Carlin, dean of the Graduate School and International Programs, presented the following awards:


• Carlin Graduate Teaching Assistant Award: Tori Barnes Brus in sociology and Matthew Waldschlagel in humanities and Western civilization.


• Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award: Greg Brister in English, Aaron Dopf in philosophy, Ashley Elston in history of art, Jee-Hae Lim in business and Daniela Teodorescu in French and Italian.


• Graduate School Dean’s Award: Jo Anne Kready, former budget officer of the Graduate School and International Programs.


•  Byron Alexander Graduate Mentor Award: Mark Richter, professor of molecular biosciences


• John C. Wright Graduate Mentor Award: Iris Smith Fischer, associate professor of English


Steve Himes, president of the Graduate and Professional Association, presented the Chancellor’s Outstanding Mentor Award to John Simmons, director of the museum studies program.
