Classified employees switch to new ‘support staff’ status, get raisesProvost and Executive Vice Chancellor David Shulenburger this week notified KU classified staff members that their positions are officially being converted to “university support staff,” effective July 3. The Kansas Board of Regents authorized the conversion July 1. As part of the conversion, university support staff will receive a salary increase of 1.75 percent on last year’s base salary, also effective July 3. The increase will be in addition to the 1.25 percent increase the State of Kansas awarded to all classified employees on June 5. The only KU support staff employees not eligible for this 1.75 percent increase are those whose most recent evaluation rating was unsatisfactory. Shulenburger said that later this year the university planned to allocate an additional merit raise for all eligible university support staff members. All support staff with a current evaluation of “meets expectations” or higher will be considered for a merit increase. The goal is that by the end of the fall semester, the average increase for all eligible university support staff would be 4.5 percent, the same merit average for all unclassified employees. |
