Mark your calendars: Spring ’06 semester delayed a day

The good news, at least for KU students, is that the 2006 winter break will be one day longer.

To correct an error in the university’s academic calendar, the Board of Regents has approved starting spring classes on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, instead of the previously approved date of Thursday, Jan. 19.

The 2005-06 calendar, adopted three years ago, mistakenly made the spring semester one day longer than the traditional 75 days.

Because of the change, some official academic dates — ranging from deadlines to add or drop a class to late-enrollment fee penalties — will be one day later than previously announced or published in school planners.

Continuing-student enrollment ends — all careers: 1/19/06
Undergraduate non-NSO advising and enrollment: 1/19/06
New nondegree enrollment: 1/19/06
New student enrollment ends (midnight): 1/19/06
Late enrollment begins: 1/20/06
$75 late-enrollment fee begins: 1/20/06
$75 late-enrollment fee ends: 1/26/06
Last day to enroll online: 1/26/06
Petition late enrollment begins (offline): 1/27/06
Last day to add and change sections online: 1/26/06
Last day to add/change sections without instructor signature: 1/26/06
Add/change of section with instructor signature begins (offline): 1/27/06
Last day to drop a class online: 2/9/06
Last day to cancel: 2/9/06
First period drop ends: 2/9/06
Second period drop begins: 2/10/06
Second period drop ends: 4/6/06
