Philip ‘Flip’ Kissam
Philip “Flip” Kissam, 63, who lived in Lawrence and in Burlington,
Vt., died Dec. 23. He came to KU’s School of Law in 1973 and became a
full professor in 1977. He was a visiting professor and research fellow at
Duke University School of Law in 1978 and 1979, an exchange professor at the
Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna, Austria, in 1991 and a professor
in the London Law Consortium in 1997. Survivors include his wife, Brenda; a
son, Jonathan, Burlington; a daughter, Ariane, Burlington; his mother, Ruth
Kissam, Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Bonnie Kissam, Sarasota; a brother, Toby,
Northport, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions

Miljenko Kovacicek
Miljenko Kovacicek, 49, Zagreb, Croatia, died Dec. 7. He spent 1988-1990
as a Fulbright lecturer at KU, where he taught Croatian. Later he worked
as a
teacher with the KU Slavic department in its study abroad program in Croatia.
In 2002 the Slavic department and the Office of Study Abroad developed a new
KU summer program in Zagreb and Dubrovnik, which partnered with Kovacicek’s
home institution, the Center for Foreign Languages and the University of Zagreb.
Survivors include his wife, Mirna, and a teenage daughter, Ana.
Robert Dale Norton
Robert Dale Norton, 76, Baldwin, died Jan. 1. He retired from KU as the
campus locksmith. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; a daughter, Cathy
Strehlow,
Overland Park; a son, Kenneth Norton, Topeka; two stepdaughters, Wendy Cherry,
Baldwin, and Terrie Dalrymple, Overland Park; two stepsons, Randy Wright, Bonner
Springs, and Roger Wright, Paola; and 16 grandchildren. The family suggests
memorials to the Lighthouse Baptist Church building fund, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts
Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin, KS 66066.
Thomas F. Reilly
Thomas F. Reilly, 77, Lawrence, died Dec. 27. He received his doctoral
degree in psychology from KU in 1966, when he joined the faculty. He
retired from
the department Aug. 1, 1992, after serving in the department for 25 years.
Survivors include a brother, Lawrence, Hamilton, N.J. Warren-McElwain Mortuary
is in charge of arrangements.
A. Murry Smith
A. Murry Smith, 84, Lawrence, died Dec. 11. He was the postal superintendent
in KU’s Strong Hall for several years before transferring as superintendent
of the Jayhawk Station in 1970. He retired in 1972. He then worked eight years
in the general accounting office at KU. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie;
a son, David Hill Smith, Overland Park; a brother, Donald, Junction City, and
two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church
or Presbyterian Manor. They may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
