KU on road to 55 high schools

‘Rock Chalk Roadshow’ to visit 33 counties

For the third year staff members from the Office of Admissions & Scholarships will be taking the “Rock Chalk Roadshow” to 55 high schools and community colleges in central and western Kansas Aug. 28-Sept. 2.

The roadshow will cover more than 2,000 miles as it swings through 46 cities in 33 counties to meet school counselors, parents and students. Besides visiting with school counselors during the day, the staff members will host receptions for parents and students in five cities along the way on Sunday afternoon and during the evenings.

KU administrators joining the roadshow crew for the receptions include Marlesa Roney, vice provost for student success; Lisa Pinamonti Kress, admissions director; and Jen Shoemaker, admissions counselor.

They will meet and chat with parents and students; present “A Day in the Life of a Jayhawk”; provide background on admissions processes and other information; and offer giveaway items. Receptions are planned in Hutchinson, Dodge City, Goodland, Hays and Concordia.

The roadshow, which in its three years has visited 52 counties, travels with two vans, allowing the staff to divide each day's itinerary and visit more counselors' offices in high schools and community colleges. The crew carries information about academic programs and national rankings, financial aid, scholarships and more.

For more information contact Lisa Kress at the Office of Admissions and Scholarships, 864-5412, or e-mail lpinamonti@ku.edu
