Peru honors school affiliated with KU institute
The Centro Ann Sullivan del Perú in Lima, an affiliate of KU's
Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies, received the Peruvian
Congressional Medal of Honor July 27 in Lima.
Liliana Mayo, director of the facility for children and adults with
developmental disabilities, accepted the honor. In 1979 she founded
the center, which
is the first of its kind in Peru.
Mayo holds a doctorate from KU and since 1996 has been an honorary
associate professor in the Department of Applied Behavioral Science.
Several KU faculty members have volunteerd at the center as consultants,
trainers, administrators and fund-raisers.
