Sex assault program has new name
The Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Program, coordinated by the Emily Taylor Women’s Resource Center, has undergone a name change to become Sexual Violence Education and Support Services.
The program will offer its annual “Fight Like a Girl” self-defense
event April 24. Co-sponsored by Sunflower Broadband and the Oxygen Network,
the event will provide information on sexual assault, prevention and
self-defense maneuvers to women at KU and in the Lawrence community.
The sexual-violence services name change coincides with the arrival of
the first full-time coordinator for this program, KU alum Kristen Abell.
Abell received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and women’s
studies in 1999 and her master’s degree in social welfare in 2001.
She returns to KU from the University of Georgia, where she was coordinator
for undergraduate staff development.
