NIH grant workshop scheduled


The KU Center for Research will conduct its annual NIH Training Grant Workshop from noon to 5 p.m. May 12 in the Big 12 Room of the Kansas Union. To attend, RSVP to jaugusto@ku.edu or call 864-7351.


Gore campaign leader to speak at Dole Institute


Democratic strategist Donna Brazile will discuss the importance of civic involvement and political activism at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Dole Institute of Politics. A book signing and reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.


Grant to fund low-income services


KU School of Education Supportive Educational Services has received a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education to provide services to low-income KU students for the next five years. This is the second time this KU program has received the grant in five years.


State Department grant to support faculty development


KU has received a $40,000 grant from the U.S. State Department to hold the only 2005 English Language Training Program for the Junior Faculty Development Program. This is the first year that the orientation will be held in the United States.


Workshop to focus on scientists and entrepreneurship


Research in Entrepreneurship, a workshop sponsored by the Center for Research on Entrepreneurial Activity, will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 6 at the Adams Alumni Center. Orchestra plans final season concert


The final KU Symphony Orchestra concert of the 2004-05 season will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in Swarthout Recital Hall. Admission is free.


Renowned poet to read works


Renowned poet C.K. Williams will present a reading and lecture at 8 p.m. May 4, in Alderson Auditorium. A question and answer session will take place at 3 p.m. May 5 at the Hall Center. Events are free and open to the public.


Communication studies speech competition slated


The communication studies department will conduct its annual Linkugel Speech Competition on April 27 and 29. The first round will be 4 to 6 p.m. April 27 in 4057 Wescoe. A final round will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. April 29 in Woodruff Auditorium. The events are open to the public.


Haskell, KU host professors conference


Haskell Indian Nations University and KU’s Center for Indigenous Nations Studies are hosting the 15th annual conference of the American Indian and Alaska Native Professors Association through April 23. The agenda is available online at www.ku.edu/~insp/conference.
