Public safety, collections find new home

The Office of Public Safety and a portion of the Biodiversity Research Center’s collections will move into the Printing Services building when the structure is vacated.

A small area in the building also will be retained to store official KU publications including the Undergraduate Catalog.

Don Steeples, vice provost for scholarly support, said the moves will make space available for other uses in Snow, Lindley, Dyche and Carruth-O’Leary halls.

Steeples said the Office of Space Management continually received requests for new and additional space. To make a decision, the office analyzes the request and often makes site visits to examine the affected space.

Steeples said his office makes the final decision, usually after conferring with the University Space Advisory Committee, and final approval comes from the provost and chancellor. Decisions are made in accordance with the Space Allocation Policies and Procedures manual, available at www.provost.ku.edu/policy/space_policy_manual/space_policy_manal_073004.pdf.
