Professor of the Year to visit KU
Notre Dame prof will share teaching techniques
Dennis Jacobs, the 2002 CASE/Carnegie U.S. Professor of the Year, will
visit KU this month to share his insights on teaching techniques.
The Department of Chemistry and the Center for Teaching Excellence invite
faculty and staff to presentations by Jacobs Sept. 16 and 17.
The first will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Big 12
room of the Kansas Union. Jacobs will focus on how to use in-class discussions
to improve student learning. Refreshments will be served from 3 to 3:30
p.m., before the session. Registrations are requested; contact CTE at
cte@ku.edu or 864-4199.
The Department of Chemistry will host the second session from 3:30 to
5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in 1001 Malott as part of its Friday seminar
series. Jacobs will discuss using active learning in large introductory
science courses. No registration is required.
Jacobs is a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University
of Notre Dame.
Jacobs has received numerous teaching awards from both Notre Dame and
the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, including its
highest honor, the U.S. Professor of the Year award.
