Professor of the Year to visit KU

Notre Dame prof will share teaching techniques

Dennis Jacobs, the 2002 CASE/Carnegie U.S. Professor of the Year, will visit KU this month to share his insights on teaching techniques.

The Department of Chemistry and the Center for Teaching Excellence invite faculty and staff to presentations by Jacobs Sept. 16 and 17.

The first will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Big 12 room of the Kansas Union. Jacobs will focus on how to use in-class discussions to improve student learning. Refreshments will be served from 3 to 3:30 p.m., before the session. Registrations are requested; contact CTE at cte@ku.edu or 864-4199.

The Department of Chemistry will host the second session from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in 1001 Malott as part of its Friday seminar series. Jacobs will discuss using active learning in large introductory science courses. No registration is required.

Jacobs is a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame.

Jacobs has received numerous teaching awards from both Notre Dame and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, including its highest honor, the U.S. Professor of the Year award.
