Band aid

As an undergraduate at KU in the 1950s, George L. Duerksen donned a Marching Jayhawks uniform, grabbed his trombone and hit the field to add color and spirit to KU football games. “I enjoyed the music and the activity – the spirit of the band,” said Duerksen, professor of music education and music therapy at KU. “It was a community of its own.” So when he heard about the Feather the Flock: Outfit the Marching Jayhawks campaign to purchase new band uniforms, Duerksen was quick to chip in.
