Senator saluted

George McGovern, former U.S. senator and 1972 presidential nominee, spoke to an audience at the Lied Center on Monday, Sept. 13, before receiving this year’s Dole Leadership Prize. McGovern, a World War II fighter pilot, author, statesman and a leading expert on the fight to eradicate world hunger, is the second person to receive the $25,000 award. The first was presented to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani at the Dole Institute’s dedication ceremonies in 2003. R. Steve Dick/University Relations
