A new device developed at KU will help researchers collect data in the field without having to look away from their subject.

The Personal Data Recorder was invented by Assistant Research Professor Troy Zarcone. He adapted a PDA to an ergonomic chassis with buttons that can be programmed to suit the data being collected.

The new tool allows researchers to record information in real time while keeping focus on the subject, which increases data accuracy and reliability. That information then can be downloaded to a computer for further analysis.

The Personal Data Recorder was among devices featured at the 2004 Technology Showcase Nov. 3 at the Lawrence Holiday Inn Convention Center.

More than 30 exhibitors represented a variety of high-technology businesses in the Lawrence area, including start-up companies created from KU technologies and KU inventors.
