Del Shankel has discovered the fountain of youth: working with college students. “They help me feel young and enthusiastic and energetic,” says this KU legend who has been a professor in the Division of Biological Sciences since 1959 and served twice as the university’s acting chancellor. His feelings for students run so deep, he and his wife, Carol, have established the Delbert M. and Carol Shankel Fund at the KU Endowment Association. The fund will provide support for students in the Department of Molecular Biosciences, the School of Fine Arts and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
