The Information Technology Security Office, a division of KU Information Services, offers some information about navigating the waters of the World Wide Web through the university system.
Here are some definitions to provide background information on navigation:
Browser—a software program used to navigate the Web.
IP address—a code that is unique to each computer, identifies its home network and its location within that network. The code is four sets of numerical digits separated by periods.
Server, box—a computer that “serves” stored data or files to other machines or a network. Not a desktop computer.
