The KU Special Events Committee has announced a fall
schedule including Family Weekend, Band Day and an open house on Sept.
11, and Homecoming Week Oct. 4 through 9.
Family Weekend will kick off Saturday, Sept. 11, with the 57th annual
Band Day and a football game against the University of Toledo. The university
also will conduct an open house that day, offering an opportunity for
current and prospective students, their families and the public to visit
and learn more about KU.
The weekend of events also will include KU’s fifth annual Collage
Concert the evening of Friday, Sept. 10. The concert is a showcase of
works by KU fine arts visual- and performing-arts students and faculty
in a nonstop 90-minute format.
Saturday events begin with the KU Marching Jayhawks and a parade of high
school marching bands through downtown Lawrence, followed by the football
game that evening.
Homecoming Week at KU will take place Oct. 4 through 9, culminating with
a game on Saturday, Oct. 9, against Kansas State University.
David Shulenburger, provost and executive vice chancellor, approved the
recommendations last week, according to Richard Johnson, dean of students,
and Kevin Boatright, interim executive vice chancellor for university
relations. Johnson and Boatright are co-chairs of the Special Events Committee.
“We worked with a variety of organizations to arrange a fall schedule
that will work well for our students, their families, alumni and the whole
community,” Boatright said. “We encourage everyone to save
these dates and plan now to participate in some of KU’s greatest
campus traditions.”
