Women’s basketball team to visit hospital


The 12th annual Crimson and Blue Holiday Project will take new head coach Bonnie Henrickson and members of the KU women’s basketball team to Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17. The team will give away KU gear donated by businesses and organizations licensed to use the university’s name and logo.

Research library displays exhibit on architect


The Spencer Research Library is featuring “The Legacy of Christopher Wren: Architect and Urban Planner.” A description of upcoming exhibits and a link to a retrospective of online materials from past exhibits can be found at spencer.lib.ku.edu/exhibits. The Spencer Library staff welcome suggestions for exhibits for the 2005-06 school term and encourage faculty to include upcoming exhibits in teaching or outreach plans.


Wheat State tour dates announced


The 2005 Wheat State Whirlwind Tour will take place May 20 and 23-27 at stops including Fort Scott, Topeka, Concordia, Nicodemus, Palco, Colby, Garden City, Dodge City, Medicine Lodge, Pratt, Hutchinson, Wichita and points in between. This six-day guided bus tour, which began in 1996, introduces faculty to the home communities of many KU students. For more information visit www.wheatstate.ku.edu.


Former center director establishes professorship


William R. Jewell, former director of the Kansas Masonic Cancer Research Institute at KU, and his wife, Sheila, have committed $500,000 to a professorship already established in his name. The Jewells’ pledge will double the size of the fund, which was created in 2003 with more than $500,000 from the Kansas Masonic Foundation. The fund provides resources for a nationally recognized researcher as director. The center’s director is Roy Jensen, M.D.


Quilt comes to Spencer for World AIDS Day


The Spencer Museum of Art again has joined with the Douglas County AIDS Project to host the NAMES Project Quilt Display in observance of World AIDS Day. Through Dec. 12, the Spencer will display panels honoring the lives of Robert Granberg, a KU Spanish professor, and Kim Marie D. Smith, mother of KU graduate student Justin LaBerge, who is a member of the DCAP board of directors. At the close of the display the panels will be added to the quilt.


KPR comedy show wins four awards


“ Right Between the Ears,” the sketch comedy show produced by Kansas Public Radio, has received four awards in the 2004 Communicator Awards. The program received four Crystal Awards of Excellence, the top prize given in the annual competition, in Writing/Humor; Creativity/On-Air Talent/Humor; Creativity/On-Air Talent/Acting; and Radio Programs/Live Broadcast. The four Crystal Awards were the most handed out to any single entrant in the 2004 competition.


Hall Center seeking nominations of authors


The Hall Center for the Humanities seeks nominations for the Byron Caldwell Smith Award, given biennially to an individual who lives or is employed in Kansas and who has authored an outstanding book published in 2003 or 2004. The $2,000 award will be presented in September 2005 in Lawrence. The deadline for nominations is March 1. For more information visit www.hallcenter.ku.edu/Competitions or call 864-4798.
