FAMILY FOCUS: Kathryn Conrad, associate professor of English, has published her first book, Locked in the Family Cell, Gender, Sexuality and Political Agency in Irish National Discourse. The book looks at politics and discourse in Ireland and how they are limited by a narrow view of family: the heterosexual family cell. Like others who have preceded her, Conrad encourages dialogue not only among scholars in different academic disciplines but also between scholars and activists. The book provides a critique of interest to scholars in a variety of fields as well as a productive political intervention.
