KU musicians perform in Guatemala

Two KU professors and two KU students performed in Guatemala last month at the invitation of a group promoting cultural projects.

Pamela Hinchman, associate professor of voice, and Steve Leisring, assistant professor of trumpet, performed March 20 in Antigua, Guatemala. The faculty members were joined by doctoral students Soyoun Lim (voice) and Sam Sang-il Lee (piano).

The group was invited by the Proyecto Cultural El Sitio, a nonprofit organization founded in 1993 to support and promote cultural projects and activity in Antigua.

Members of the KU group performed as soloists and for varied collaborative works by composers such as Scarlatti, Handel, Mozart, Ravel, Charpentier, Puccini and Gershwin. The group is looking into taking the program to Ukraine, Spain, Korea and other places.
