Dwight D. Sutherland
Dwight D. Sutherland, 81, Mission Hills, died Oct. 25. He had served on the boards of the KU Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association and received the Ellsworth Medallion for Distinguished Service. Sutherland created the Sutherland Institute of the KU Medical Center, dedicated to facial reconstruction of children. The family suggests memorials to the KU Endowment Association, the American Royal, or the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum, sent in care of Newcomer’s Stine & McClure Chapel, 3235 Gillham Plaza, Kansas City, MO 64109.


Josephine E. Walker
Josephine E. Walker, 89, Lawrence, died Oct. 23. She had been an accompanist for KU graduate students. Survivors include four daughters, Julia A. Magana, Kansas City, Kan., Rebecca Castro, Lawrence, Martha Abendroth, Eureka Springs, Ark., and Mary E. Harris, Falmouth, Maine; three sons, John D., Red Oak, Iowa, K. Richard, Hutchinson, and Paul A., Eudora; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the organ fund or children’s music program at First Christian Church, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.


Irene Welsh
Irene Welsh, 85, Lawrence, died Oct. 9. Before retiring, she was a cook at Watkins Memorial Hospital for 15 years. Survivors include a daughter, Corliss Beerbower, Eudora; a sister, Mary Martin, Lawrence; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Irene Welsh Memorial Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
