Student Success office taps Concordia native
New vice provost returns to Kansas this summer
A
Concordia native who currently oversees student services at the University
of Akron has been named vice provost for student success at KU.
Marlesa A. Roney, vice president of student affairs at Akron since 2000,
will begin overseeing the Office for Student Success on June 23.
“We are very pleased to have someone of Marlesa Roney’s caliber
join us at KU,” said Kathleen McCluskey-Fawcett, senior vice provost
for academic affairs. “She has an outstanding record as a student
advocate and is a visionary administrator. We know she will provide outstanding
leadership for student success.”
Roney will oversee academic and student services that promote student
retention, academic success and graduation.
She succeeds Mary Lee Hummert, KU professor of communication studies,
who has served as interim vice provost for student support since Aug.
1, 2002, when the vice provost of student affairs, David Ambler, retired
following 25 years of service in student services at KU.
The title changes reflect reorganization and streamlining of services
that were approved last year.
