Lied Center releases 2003-04 schedule

The 2003-04 Lied Series schedule, celebrating the 10th year of the center and the 100th year of KU’s Concert Series and featuring performances by Yo Yo Ma and the Canadian Brass, recently was announced.

The Lied Center will feature 29 performances during the season, starting with a free outdoor concert by Grammy winner Alison Brown and her quartet on Aug. 22, and ending May 1, 2004, with a performance by the Bang on a Can All-Stars. In between, the series will feature almost weekly performances by well-known and rising musicians, dancers and dramatists.

For the centennial celebration of the Concert Series, the Miami City Ballet will visit Oct. 8 for an all-Balanchine program, followed Oct. 22 by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, featuring conductor and piano soloist Murray Perahia. The Canadian Brass will play Feb. 7, 2004, and the critically acclaimed Teatro Lirico D’Europa will end the series with a performance of Verdi’s “La Traviata” March 5, 2004.

Yo Yo Ma and his Silk Road ensemble will perform April 17, 2004, as a special anniversary event.

Subscription tickets and single tickets for students are available now at the Lied Center ticket office or by calling (785) 864-2787. Single tickets will go on sale to the general public June 23. Friends of the Lied will be able to purchase single tickets starting June 16. For a complete schedule and more information on the events, visit www.lied.ku.edu.
