New orchestral director has European experience


Nicholas Uljanov has accepted the position of director of orchestral activities at KU and will begin work in the fall term. Uljanov, who is originally from Austria, received degrees from St. Petersburg Conservatory in orchestral and opera conducting from 1979 to 1986. He then pursued conducting studies at the Vienna High School of Music and later enjoyed a successful debut at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in 1991. Since that time, he has traveled extensively through invitations to conduct with various major European orchestras, opera houses and festivals.


Information Services adds 3 employees


KU’s Information Services has added three new members to its team.
Eric Hiebert is the new event management system coordinator for information services. He coordinates and implements a new software management system that will process, track and follow up on technology service requests across the university.
Tom Roderick is the new student technology coordinator. He manages technology support and assistance in all Academic Computing Services labs and will serve as a technology liaison to KU’s student organizations.
Carol Zumbrunn is the new licensing specialist for information services. She will manage software licensing and will facilitate the renewal of licenses.


KPR hires development director


Robin Johnson has been named Kansas Public Radio’s new director of development. She began her position on June 30. Previously Johnson was an account executive with KLZR/KLWN radio in Lawrence. In her new position, Johnson will handle more than 130 underwriting accounts and seek to widen KPR’s underwriting base in Emporia, Manhattan and Junction City.
