Successful beginning

Marlesa Roney, the new vice provost for student
success, talks with guests at a reception in her honor at the Spencer
Research Library on July 18. Roney began working at KU on June 23. Roney,
a Concordia native, will oversee academic and student services that promote
student retention, academic success and graduation. She succeeds Mary
Lee Hummert, KU professor of communication studies, who has served as
interim vice provost for student support since Aug. 1, 2002, when the
vice provost of student affairs, David Ambler, retired following 25 years
