KU administrators win awards
KU received six awards during the 2002 conference
for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Region
IV-West.
NASPA is a national organization that provides professional development,
promotes exemplary practices and is a leader in policy development. NASPA
helps senior student affairs officers and administrators, student affairs
professionals, faculty and other educators enhance student learning and
development.
Region IV-West includes 10 states and two Canadian provinces.
This year’s recipients were:
David Ambler, vice chancellor emeritus for
student support, Distinguished Service Award
Seth Fishman, Jayhawk Towers complex director,
New Professional Rising Star Award
Robert Page, director of Multicultural Affairs,
Campus-Based Publication Award for “Hawk Link: Student of Color
Retention Program”
Theresa Brown, director of student resources,
wellness and diversity at KU Medical Center, Outstanding New Professional
Award
Shanda Hurla, Eudora graduate student in
education, Graduate Rising Star Award
Rustain Morgan, Burlington May 2002 graduate
in human biology, Undergraduate Rising Star Award
Ann Eversole, associate dean of student life administration, chaired the
conference, which took place in November in Kansas City, Mo.
In other NASPA news, administrators Ken and Ruth Stoner were featured
on the front page of the organization’s winter newsletter in a story
that detailed their experiences as a couple with dual careers in student
affairs.
As an assistant dean of student life, Ruth manages the personnel and budget
for the department that oversees student services organizations. Ken,
director of student housing, coordinates the operations of KU’s
system of residence and scholarship.
