HIPAA Hippo

A dozen departments at Watkins Health Center decorated hippos earlier this month in celebration of completing preparations for new Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. On April 14, HIPAA added new rights regarding a patient’s health care, including the right to access and amend one’s own medical record, the right to request restrictions on the use and disclosure of health information and the right to complain about privacy violations. For more information about HIPAA, visit www.kumc.edu/hipaa. R. Steve Dick/University Relations
