CLAS appoints Romzek to be new associate dean


Barbara S. Romzek, professor of public administration, has been appointed the new associate dean for the social sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, replacing Joane Nagel, university distinguished professor of sociology. Nagel has been selected to serve a two-year term as sociology program director at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Romzek teaches public management and leadership and conducts research in the area of accountability and privatization of public services. She is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. For the past two years Romzek served as the College’s associate dean for the Edwards Campus.

Coffey named associate director


The Applied English Center has promoted Margaret Coffey, senior language specialist, to associate director. She replaces Christa Hansen, who accepted a position at the University of Oregon. Coffey will coordinate two existing AEC special programs and develop new programs. She will continue to coordinate the cross-cultural counseling program.


Heusted receives annual student affairs award

Leslie Heusted, program director of KU Memorial Unions, has received the 2002-03 KU-National Association for Student Personnel Administrators award. The award gives Heusted a yearlong membership in NASPA and a trip to the regional conference in Kansas City in November. The award recognizes a new staff member for outstanding performance and potential as a member of the student affairs profession. It is the most prestigious way that the Division of Student Support recognizes a new staff member.
