Roma Lee Taunton, professor of nursing, has received a three-year, $1.2
million grant from the National Institutes of Health and the National
Institute of Nursing Research to find ways to improve the quality of care
received in nursing homes.
The goals of the project range from examining facility care-planning processes
to identifying the associations between care-planning processes and resident
outcomes. Researchers will looks for indicators such as weight loss, falls

poor resident assessment and 16.1 percent for failure to provide a comprehensive
care plan.

Program seeks
host families
The Lawrence Friendship Family Program, formerly known as the Lawrence
Host Family Program, is seeking families and individuals in the Lawrence
community who would like to befriend a KU international student.
Started in the 1970s, the program is a nonpolitical, nonreligious organization
coordinated through the Office of International Student and Scholar Services
and a steering committee of community volunteers. While striving to help
new international students feel at home during the transition to their
new environment, the program also offers a unique opportunity for American
families to gain a personal insight into another culture. For more information,
call 864-3617 or e-mail mediger@ku.edu.
