Forty-five KU women were honored for their achievements on April 23 during the annual Women’s Recognition Ceremony in the Kansas Union.
The keynote speaker was former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Sally Frost Mason, who now is provost and professor of biological sciences at Purdue University.
During the ceremony, Dr. Deborah Powell, Maryemma Graham, Barbara Watkins and Mary Rosenbloom were inducted into the KU Women’s Hall of Fame, a tradition that dates back more than 30 years. Rosenbloom, who died on April 30, 2001, was honored posthumously.
Ida Hyde won the award for Outstanding Pioneer Woman. Winners of the Outstanding Woman Educator award were Mary Karen Dahl, chair of the theatre and film department, and Judith McCrea, chair of the art department. Outstanding Woman Staff Member awards went to Joyce Davidson, counseling psychologist for Counseling and Psychological Services, and Dee Ann Steinle, associate director of the master’s degree programs in the School of Business.
Student honorees were: Olivia “Nikki” White, Outstanding Woman Student in Athletics; Kelly Brown Evans, Outstanding Woman Student in Community Service; Margery Ridgeway, Outstanding Nontraditional Woman Student; Breeze Luetke-Stahlman, Outstanding Woman Student in Leadership; Sharon Sullivan, Outstanding Woman Student in Partnership; Yuwen Lai, Outstanding International Woman Student; and Jamie Zerbe, Sally Frost Mason Award, which was presented for the first time to the outstanding female undergraduate student in biological sciences.
The Alma Poehler Brook Award, which was created to honor the former Corbin Hall director, was awarded to Alicia Swanson, Terran Hall and Deanna Martin. The three students are residents of Gertrude Sellards Pearson and Corbin halls and were selected for the awards by hall staff.

Printing services hires customer service manager
Richard Gilbert is the newest member of the KU Printing Services team. He started work as a customer service manager on March 25. He will assist various customers with their printing projects as well as fine-tuning the processes and procedures in the customer service department.
