Jayhawks rock, flock to state fair

KU employees volunteer to promote KU in Hutchinson

Dozens of KU staff will “Party on the Prairie” when they head to Hutchinson next month to tout the university at the Kansas State Fair, Sept. 6 to 15.

The volunteers will staff the university’s booth in the Meadowlark Building, telling visitors about the university, answering questions and handing out such favorites as the Jayhawk fan and face stickers and a new KU Frisbee.

KU also will give away two “Jayhawks Rock!” T-shirts each day of the fair, said Ruth Hurst, state fair coordinator at University Relations. The fair’s theme is “Party on the Prairie.” KU’s booth will feature a dancing Jayhawk design.

On the fair’s first weekend, visitors to the booth can interact with the CyberJay, a computer-generated Jayhawk that speaks to visitors.

Jayhawk fans also can attend the KU pep rally from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday Sept. 8 at the Lake Talbott area at the state fairgrounds. Athletics Director Al Bohl, Executive Vice Chancellor Janet Murguia, Miss Kansas USA and KU student Lindsay Douglas, and the KU pep band will appear at the rally.

Two basketballs and two footballs, signed by coaches Roy Williams and Mark Mangino, will be given away at the rally. For more information, see www.kansasstatefair.com.
