Funds available for faculty international scholarly travel will double beginning Chancellor Robert Hemenway has dedicated an additional $40,000 a year from KU Endowment Association unrestricted funds for use by the Office of International Programs to increase the number of graduate faculty attending international conferences or conducting research abroad. To fully internationalize the curriculum and become a great international university, it is essential that we support faculty who are engaged globally in scholarly activity and research, Hemenway said. Currently, about 55 awards of up to $800 are made annually to cover 60 percent of airfare costs. With the enhanced funds, 80 awards of $1,100 each will be available annually for international travel after July 1, 2001. Graduate faculty may qualify every three years for an award. The networking done by faculty who present at international conferences or I am pleased the chancellor recognizes the importance of increased funding of international opportunities for faculty.
