David Bergeron, professor of English, recently received the South-Central Renaissance Scholarly Essay Prize for “Printers’ and Publishers’ Addresses in Dramatic Texts, 1558-1642.” The essay will be published in Explorations in Renaissance Culture. Bergeron also may present the paper in April at the annual meeting of the South-Central Renaissance Conference.

Perry Alexander, a faculty researcher at KU’s Information and Telecommunication Technology Center, has been elected chair of the Engineering of Computer-Based Systems Technical Committee. The committee, which includes more than 400 members, is one of several working committees of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, an international organization. The committee next meets in April in Washington, D.C. Alexander is an associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science.

Van Kelly, associate professor of French and Italian, presented a paper, “Ambivalent Postmodernisms: Baudrillard, Houellebecq, Deguy,” at the December convention of the Modern Language Association in Washington, D.C.

Howard Sypher, professor of communication studies, will be the keynote speaker at a Virtual University Seminar March 30 at the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. The university is a European leader in integrating new communication technology into the curriculum. Sypher’s lecture, which focuses on “New Technology and Change Management,” also will be telecast to other universities in Finland.

Tracy Russo, assistant professor of communication studies, has been selected to receive one of 30 Pew National Fellowships for Carnegie Scholars. She will conduct research during the next year and study in residence with the other Carnegie Scholars for 10 days in each of the next two summers.

An essay by John T. Alexander, professor of history, was recently published in Peter the Great and the West: New Perspectives, a collection edited by Lindsey Hughes. Alexander’s essay, “Catherine I, Her Court and Courtiers,” was also presented at a conference at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich celebrating Peter’s 1698 visit to England.
