Two groups of KU faculty, staff and students will assist the KU Endowment Association during the universitys third major fund-raising campaign. University Family Committees at KU and the KU Medical Center will serve as a connection for faculty, staff, students and campaign leaders. They also will generate ideas and support for the campaign. Tom Beisecker, chair of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and associate professor of communication studies, will be chair of the University Family Committee on the Lawrence campus. Beisecker said that committee members are pleased to be included. We anticipate the campaign will be instrumental in supporting all aspects of the university, and we look forward to working with the KU Endowment staff and the campaign steering committee to identify campaign needs and priorities, Beisecker said. We want everyone in the Lawrence and Edwards Campus community to know they have a voice in this campaign. If faculty, staff or students want to discuss the campaign or have questions and concerns, we hope they will talk with us. University Family Committee members in Lawrence are: Jerry Bailey, interim dean of the School of Education; Lynn George, employment manager, human resources; Edwyna Gilbert, associate professor emerita of English; Stan Rolfe, distinguished professor of civil and environmental engineering; Jan Sheldon, professor of human development and family life; Roger Shimomura, distinguished professor of art; Kathryn Tuttle, director of the Freshman-Sophomore Advising Center; Courtney Bates, sophomore; Joshua Burdette, graduate student; Jameson Jones, sophomore; and Benjamin Walker, junior and student body president. A similar committee will operate on the KU Medical Center campus. John Ferraro, professor and chair of the hearing and speech department, will lead the Medical Center committee. Other Medical Center committee members are: Joan Hunt, professor of anatomy and cell biology; Norman Martin, professor of radiology-education; R. Neil Schimke, professor and division director, endocrinology, metabolism and genetics; Travis Thompson, director of the Institute for Child Development; Jon Jackson, senior vice president for systems integration; Rick Kellerman, professor and chair of family and community medicine-Wichita; Anita Wingate, associate professor of nursing; Sandra Sanchez, executive assistant, deans office; and Robert Riss and Eric Fry, third-year medical students. An 18-member campaign steering committee, formed in May 2000, will lead the KUEA campaign. It includes key KU alumni and the chancellor. |
