Tuition assistance deadline
KUs tuition assistance program is available to staff with one year of full-time or three years of part-time KU employment. The program covers tuition for one class per semester. Classes should be structured courses that meet on a scheduled basis with days and times published in the Timetable of Classes. The tuition assistance application form is available on the human resources Web page under Forms Download. Contact Lynn George of human resources at 864-7415 or
lgeorge@ku.edu with any questions. The application deadline for the fall semester is 5 p.m. July 20. Applications should be forwarded to the Tuition Assistance Committee, c/o Human Resources, 103 Carruth-OLeary Hall.
Spencer Research Library to close for reorganization
The Kenneth Spencer Research Library will be closed July 20 to 27 to complete the last phases of moving furniture, equipment and collections in the librarys reorganization. The library is normally closed on weekends during the summer term.
The reorganization adds a central Reader Services Department for users of the Kansas Collection, Special Collections and University Archives. Located on the librarys third floor, the Reader Services Department will provide reception and reference services and an expanded, combined reading room. Spencer Library staff members will work together to provide reference service and instruction.
Latin American Studies moves
The Center of Latin American Studies is relocating to Bailey Hall. Offices will be closed June 18 to 20 for the move. The new central suite, 320 Bailey, will house directors, assistant directors, full-time faculty and accounting staff for the Center of Latin American Studies and the Center of Russian and East European Studies. In 324 Bailey, the Outreach Center will be shared by four area centers: Latin American, Russian and East European, East Asian, and African-American studies.
KU engineering dean to lead national council
Carl E. Locke Jr., dean of engineering, has been elected to chair the Engineering Deans Council of the American Society for Engineering Education. The position gives Locke a seat on the ASEE national board of directors.
Locke took over duties for the position during the ASEEs annual convention and exposition in late June in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Engineering Deans Council is composed of deans representing each of the engineering colleges and schools that are members of the ASEE, as well as representatives from interested affiliate college members.
Last chance to check phone listings at University Relations
Campus offices that have sent updates to the Office of University Relations for the administrative pages of the university telephone directory and did not send a representative during the proofreading period this past week have a last chance to check their entries for the 2001-02 edition.
Offices may send representatives to University Relations to proofread their sections of the administrative pages of the directory from this Monday, July 16, to Friday, July 20. An appointment isnt needed. Call John Reimringer at 864-8856 for more information.
