United Way drive begins

The United Way of Douglas County will kick off its 2000-01 fund drive this weekend with the Day of Caring.

Volunteers will offer assistance Sept. 9 at United Way agencies and other locations throughout the county. For more information, contact Michelle Heller at 865-5030.
The coordinator for this year's United Way campaign at KU is Leonard Krishtalka, director of the Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center.

"Support from KU is critical to the United Way of Douglas County," he said. "The more the KU community supports the Douglas County United Way, the more Douglas County becomes our community."

The 2000 campaign, "The Power of You," will run to Nov. 3. KU employees can contribute to the United Way through payroll deductions and can designate contributions for specific agencies.

This year's contribution goal for KU employees is $196,226. The goal for the county is $1.42 million.

The United Way of Douglas County helps nearly 30 agencies, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club, Hospice and Trinity Respite Care.
For more information, see the campaign's Web site at www.unitedwaydgco.org.
