Sabbatical applications due
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty must submit endorsed sabbatical leave applications for the 2001-02 academic year to the College office, 200 Strong Hall, by 5 p.m. Sept. 29.
Self-nominations are due in the provost's office Sept. 15.


Music division remains in Bailey
The music education and music therapy division of the Department of Music and Dance remains in Bailey Hall. Classes are also meeting in the building.


Dedication planned for new child care center
The new KU Child Care Center will be dedicated at a ceremony at 9 a.m. Sept. 9. The center is off Irving Hill Road, south of the Burge Union.
Tours of the building will follow the program. If it rains, the dedication will be in the Frontier Room of the Burge Union.


Watkins health fair tackles good health
Watkins Health Center will help students, faculty and staff "Tackle Good Health" during its annual health fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20.
Health center staff will provide information and activities about the center's services. Fair attendees can check their blood pressure, body fat percentage and nutrition profile, and pick up coupons for Watkins services.
Services available to KU employees on a fee-for-service basis are prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, immunizations, flu shots, nutrition counseling, CPR training and travel consultations.

Magazine puts KU in top 50
Once again, KU ranks among the top 50 national public universities, according to U.S. News and World Report magazine.
In the magazine's annual "America's Best Colleges" issue, which hit newsstands Sept. 4, KU finished in a tie for 42nd place with Auburn University among the nation's top 147 public institutions. The University of California-Berkeley was ranked the top national public institution.
Overall, KU finished in a four-way tie for 62nd place among the nation's top 228 public and private institutions, along with Syracuse University, the University of Georgia and Pittsburgh University.
Only four other Big 12 schools were included in the overall ranking of public and private institutions. They were the University of Texas, 16th; Texas A&M, in a three-way tie for 58th; and Baylor University and the University of Missouri, in a seven-way tie for 64th place.


Center plans luncheon series
The Multicultural Resource Center plans a brown bag lecture series for KU employees.
The first session will be at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 20 at the center. Attendees should bring their own lunch.
Robert Rodriguez of the McNair Scholars Program will speak on "Understanding the Diversity of Latinos."
