A July 25 opening is planned for KU's new parking garage, which has been rising from its hillside site adjacent

to the Kansas Union for the past year. According to Rodger Oroke, director of general services, the new

structure will serve a mix of 318 permit parking holders and up to 500 hourly parkers. Oroke said it will cost

approved permit holders an additional $5 to park in the garage; the hourly rate will be $1 per hour, Oroke said.

"There is an immense demand for visitors and guests at this location," he added. "We think it's been badly
