- Keith Russell, dean of KU libraries, recently announced the
appointment of Richard Fyffe to the position of assistant dean
for scholarly communication.
Fyffe will come to KU from the University of Connecticut, Storrs,
where he has served as head of collections services and bibliographer
for linguistics and philosophy.
Fyffe will begin his KU employment Aug. 7.
"Richard will help KU shape thoughtful responses to the
challenges of new information media, rising costs and continuing
commitments to exceptional print research collections,"
Russell said. "Richard's combination of intelligence, thorough
understanding of the issues and a deep appreciation for the scholarly
enterprise make him an outstanding choice for this position.
I am very much looking forward to working with him."
Fyffe has been employed by the University of Connecticut Library
since 1990.
He previously held positions at the Essex Institute, Salem, Mass.,
and the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Mass. Fyffe
is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with bachelor's
and master's degrees in philosophy. He also holds a master's
degree from the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and
Information Science.
